#GiantHands on #timessquare in #NewYorkCity.
The city I love is pretty strange right now, and I have to admit for the past month I've had a little bit of PTSD and I have been working through it slowly. I'm a very sensitive person, one of those that takes absolutely everything from their environment but that's exactly how I work. I take everything from the environment and work with it, and we, collectively, create something new - my drawings, installations and performances, even things that I do completely on my own, are always part of a collective work, the people, the places and the energy that swirls around it.
Every performance I make, every installation in a public space becomes an ecosystem with characters and flow. Often times the NYPD comes, the bomb squad comes especially if there is a large bag with strange things in it, the security people usually come to chat and often help, the events people, visitors, locals and performers we all join in the life of the city.
The #hands have become an artifact of (life in) #NewYorkCity, they were made in #Manhattan and dragged through streets, trains, subways, parks and squares.

Giant Hands on Times Square
In the Hands is encoded our entire civilization. The first Art ever was a hand print on the wall of a cave. The Hands have also encoded the greatest of human art, as in the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo.
Fresh Crop Circle discovered in Central Park!
Mysterious Hands Artifacts are behind the mystery, scientists argue either aliens or unknown ancient hand has a hand in it. UFO might be involved or someone from NYC with enough hands at hand, all in all 36.
The Hands Got Wet however..
I know my life is crazy - spent the evening draping them around and drying the hands..
#OneNewYork One New York is a series of installations and performances with Giant Hands by American Artist Mirena Rhee on Times Square in New York City during the Great Covid Pandemic.
In the hand is encoded our civilization, the first art ever was on a wall of a cave, a hand print.

The Greatest City in the World and its Heart still Beat. An unplagueing ritual and performance & installation with Giant Hands at Times Square in New York City. We all agreed this city is as beautiful and even more than ever, and we'll be back soon.

Our entire civilization is encoded in the Hand.
A year and a half ago I had 12 hands, now I have 36. I feel like a multi-handed creature .. and now that i have a mask...
I find great solace in nature where every twig and every leaf and every color has a purpose and beauty and art in it. The entire wealth of all civilization can't make a leaf from scratch.
Walking around Central Park in New York City during coronavirus lockdown and scouting locations for next series of Giant Hands Installations.. previously I had only 12 hands, now I have 36.
Happy Friday and Wishing you a Pleasant Memorial Day Weekend with a Little Dance from Manhattan.
I'd like to inform you I was also completely isolated on the Pier at the moment of dancing with a zero chance of spitting on anyone, with the nearest person at least 60 feet away.
Feel free to add music in your head or whistle.

It could take you literally years to untangle this drawing, there are numbers in it and all kinds of meanings encoded in the objects and the hands, created in NYC over the last couple of months. See Super High Resolution images and indulge your old fashioned Old Masters pen and ink cravings.
Giant hand paintings - Red and Palm, 48 by 36 inches, mixed media on paper created over the past couple of months
during.. what the world deemed a lockdown
a part of an ongoing series of hands, currently in the process of developing peeling hands paintings on different surfaces.
My thought process is like a thread which comes from past images and ideas and which stretches into the future and on this thread hang various fruits.. and vegetables.

My latest old Masters drawing using dip pen and ink. A hands and solids adventure into the mind. Using my own old Masters technique of drawing with subtle brown and red inks.
The third dimension or the dimensions are spilling on the one side of the drawing.
Peeling the hands is like peeling an orange towards an unknown destination
A Hands and Solids garden, when I draw a feel more like a Sherlock Holmes rather than Michelangelo, I'm an investigator.
It's not really as much about the drawing but about the disegno or the design and the line. I have to admit I'm not much of a colorist.
Why I Draw
Most people who work today,
most artists,
especially people who draw with pen and ink,
draw stuff.
Either representational or some doodles
or some comic book stuff, or manga, which is more close to illustration. So most of painting today is either doodles, or illustrations. or of course, tutorials, everybody does tutorials. The difference between myself and those people is that I draw ideas of the mind.
I make maps of my synapses.
These ideas draw on a body of work which has been coming for a long time, for many years, and will go on for many years. So, it is a stream of ideas. A stream of developing visuals.
So, the difference, again between myself and everybody else that draws is that I draw ideas, and I use my imagination to create worlds. And not just illustrate, or doodle. So there's a lot of intellectual work behind the work. A lot of intellectual labor goes into my visions, into the work.
Additionally, I use very special inks. I use very subtle inks. I don't use Higgins, actually I use Higgins but rarely because this ink is very assertive, very strong, and thick ink.
I don't like thick ink.
Also the paper I use is very special. I don't use any kind of paper to draw on, I use only very special paper that is very responsive to the painting, and is absolutely an ideal match. So, the technique. The ideas. And the materials are a perfect match.

download it here and have your text to voice app read it to you from plain text. My mac reads it to me and it’s nice, or there’s simple app called Voice ( for Android ) which also does a pretty good job, and others too:

So I have been listening to Plutarch about the lives of the most prominent Greeks and Romans and was astonished to find out that most of these people were mass murderers., not really great people but a bunch of violent dumbass fond of wrestling and spears. So far no respite from large armies and battles. I'm about to go into Demosthenes which is a bit reassuring because he battled with words.
Actually just about to be done with Cicero and, still, found out that even the wise men were stirring violence and committed violent acts on account of gaining power.
So, read Plutarch: Lives of the noble Grecians and Romans instead of reading newspapers which now that they have been satisfied bloodthirsty on death and disease have started counting the unemployed. The internet has become so saturated with b******* that now even my goto weather app shows the numbers of dead and sick people in between the humidity, chances of rain and wind speed, they somehow managed to include the numbers of the sick and the dead. I realized the internet has become gross because of greed and ads, and all kinds of corporate speak which ambushes us from every corner. I have resorted to reading two of my favorite sites only - Wikipedia and project Gutenberg. I don't think there is anything on the internet worth reading other than possibly also LibriVox, archive.org and of course, all the piracy sites.
Have your life measured up to the greatest heroes of mankind and see what you come up with. So far I am winning as I have never killed a man.
p.s. I was about to lecture you about handbags, but, boy, I realized that we as humanity have come a really long way from being truly savage so I guess the handbag is a small price to pay.
